Some important safety and routine HAC updates. Please take time to read the following important information:
AIR ACCIDENTS INVESTIGATION BRANCH (AAIB) BULLETIN
The AAIB has released a Bulletin which reports on a very sad accident of a PA-28R in April this year. The aircraft was part of a club fly-out from Wellesbourne Mountford to Le Touquet – something not dissimilar to what we do at the HAC. Whilst the precise cause may never be known, the Bulletin accurately summarises all the factors that may have contributed to the loss of the aircraft and (presumed) its occupants – please read the Bulletin (link below) and consider why the HAC:
- Conducts a ‘Cross-Channel Check’ (or Exped planning cycle) before allowing its members to fly solo overseas.
- Mandates wearing of life jackets and carriage of PLBs.
- Conducts ditching, survival and search & rescue briefings.
- Positively promotes the Sea Survival Course.
- Minimises sea-track crossing distances.
- Conducts regular risk assessments of routine flying and Expeds.
- Conducts a mass sortie brief and out-brief on all Fly-Out/Exped sorties.
- Has currency and weather rules in excess of the CAA.
- Positively promotes the Instrument Rating (Restricted) Course.

UPCOMING EVENTS
We have received the Op Order for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee RAF Flypast and it does not route over RAF Halton; therefore there will be no HAC event on Thu 2 Jun 22. Please make sure you have the following in your diary:
> Tue 7 Jun 22 – 1930hrs – HAC AGM in the RAFA Clubhouse. Food provided, cash bar open.
HAC FLEET UPDATE
The good news is that next week we should have 2 x C-152, 1 x PA-28 and 1 x Tecnam serviceable and available. Watch the EBS. Meantime, please note the following:
- G-EDGA – Serviceable. Deposit paid and zero-timing commenced of the only ‘exchange’ Lycoming engine in the Country.
- G-HACS – Stabilator parts due with the engineers for fitting at Halton on Tue 24 May.
- G-BVTM – At Enstone for 100 hour service and ARC renewal – due back mid next week.
- G-BSCZ – Due for return mid next week.
- G-BNKI – Update due on replacement engine tomorrow.
ADDITIONAL FI
We will soon be welcoming Bob Tandy back from Hong Kong. Bob will be available throughout the summer months and will generate the instructional capacity required once the RAF Junior Ranks Pilot Scholarship commence. Watch the EBS.
HAC AIRCRAFT AT ROYAL INTERNATIONAL AIR TATTOO (RIAT)
Yesterday we received confirmation of HAC aircraft participation in the RIAT static display. Deacon will be sending out details soon.
