Mike Russell sent this message out on the 23/03/21 while testing a new set of forwarders. If you have not seen this message in your email box, and you are a member of Halton Aero Club, please get in touch with Mike on the following email address: mike.russell@haltonaeroclub.co.uk Scroll down the page to below the message to find out about Forwarders, and what you can do if you are not receiving messages.
Dear All,
To reflect the “new” membership from 1st April I have revamped the e mail forwarding system that HAC uses to send e mails to all or selected groups of members.
I am sending this e mail to test the revamped system and identify any issues that Mark Wingrove and I can then address. Of course, if there is an error that results in a member not receiving this e mail, we won’t know about it (Rumsfeld’s “We don’t know what we don’t know” principle!); so Mark W will put up a news item on the website asking anyone who did not receive this e mail to contact me; he will also include it in the next newsletter to which I am sure you have all subscribed – if not the link is below.
On Sunday our Chairman sent out the first in a series of e mails concerning return to flying. As this was sent before I had done the revamp, I attach it here. Consequently you may receive it several times, but it’s better to have to delete copies than not get the information at all.
Whilst I am writing, may I thank all 2021 members for their prompt completion of membership application forms and prompt payment of their due fees. We were able to find places for all applicants who got their applications in on time and to date 92% of members have paid – and have had their EBS accounts unlocked ready to make bookings as soon as the EBS is itself unlocked and we can make bookings to get back in the air.
Stay safe.
regards
Mike Russell

About Forwarding and Emails
What is a Forwarder?
To facilitate and simplify the communications between the committee and the membership, all of your email addresses have been set up in groups. When someone wishes to reach out to the membership they send a message to a special single email address, which connects to several other email addresses and causes a message to be sent to every member.
It is better to do it this way than to use everyone’s email address on the BCC line which is likely to end up being identified as junk email.
Mike controls this area and we need your help to let us know if you cannot see these messages coming through to you. Most important messages are going to be copied onto the website as well if you need to check back.
Why have I not seen any messages?
There can be several reasons, some organisations have policies where no incoming email will be accepted for security reasons. You may have junk email filters in operation either separately, through your place of work, or automatically filtering email. Your mail box might be full, we may have made an error entering the email address or there may be many other reasons.
First Response
If you think you should be receiving emails and have not seen any from HAC the first thing to do is check that the email address you provided on your membership form is the one you are using. If it isn’t check the one you provided to us.
If you have checked your email box and cannot see anything, please check your junk email folder. If the mail is in the junk email folder, highlight the email and tell your filtering system to whitelist or accept any emails coming from haltonaeroclub.co.uk & haltonaeroclub.org.uk as “not junk email” or whiltelist them.
Note that if you are using Gmail, depending on how it is set up, you might need to click on “more” and then “All Mail” to see the message.
If you are sure you have checked and cannot find anything, please contact Mike on mike.russell@haltonaeroclub.co.uk
What we can do from our end?
We can check and verify that the correct email address is configured. If that is the case the email is definitely being sent out. We have some parameters set up in the email hosting which identifies the legitimate server that can send emails out on behalf of the club. A receiving mail system is likely to check that as part of an anti spam test, so they should be getting through.
If you are still not receiving mail, it could be something your service provider is doing. We cannot control that. The choices are to use a different email address if you have tried everything at your end.
HAC Newsletter
The website has a newsletter function built into it. This allows us to package up news and send it out to subscribers every month. This service has been dormant for some time due to pandemic. It will be restarted shortly. The service will package up news on the site and deliver it to your email box. It also carries the benefit that in order to subscribe to the system you need to locate a message sent to you from the website. It works this way to ensure that the return path to your email box works, and also to ensure nobody can sign you up without your knowledge.
If you have not signed up to the newsletter please go to this page: https://haltonaeroclub.co.uk/newsletter/ If it is not right for you, you can unsubscribe at any time. We do not add email addresses into this system. You need to subscribe yourself to receive messages.
