Chairman’s Update 27-06-23

Dear Member,

An important update from the HAC.

INCREASED AIRCRAFT AVAILABILITY
Congratulations to our 2 RAF Junior Rank Scholars for both achieving their first solos in just over a week of training! This early achievement means that the PA-28s and Deacon are available for increased booking with immediate effect. Also, please note that aircraft often remain un-booked after 1800hrs (the Airfield is open until 2000hrs daily) and have excellent availability at weekends – make the most of this untapped capacity.

FLEET UPDATE
> G-BVTM – A mix of good and bad news. Door frames have been sourced (good news). They will cost £3000 and have a lead-time of 90 days (terrible news). We are looking for a C-152 on lease with immediate effect. Protect all of our aircraft – do not fast-taxy.
> G-BNKI
– Subject to parts arriving at Turweston today, we hope to collect KI tomorrow. This will be reflected on the EBS once confirmed.
> G-EDGA – Serviceable.
> G-EGBJ – Serviceable. BJ will remain with us til late July and be replaced by G-CLDK. Just use the current line on the EBS and bookings will be carried-over.

TUE 4 JUL SOCIAL – FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR
Just a week to go to the next Social Evening. This will provide an update on the progress towards the World Speed Record attempt for circumnavigation of the Earth and focus on the safety and management of risk in the flying environment. Food will be available and the Bar opened at 1900hrs.

MINI EXPED – UK TOUR – 7-9 SEP 23
Two places remain on this excellent organised UK Tour. Comprising 2 planning meetings, approx 8hrs flying (4hrs P1 per crew member) and 2 nightstops (Blackpool and Newcastle), this is the key to unlocking your flying outside of Buckinghamshire. Reply to this email should you wish to attend.

Stay Safe,

Mark

Chairman’s Update 04-06-23

Dear Member,

Please take time to read the following important information:

TUES 6 JUN – SOCIAL – CHIPMUNK FORMATION FLYING
This month’s Social is by Alec Trevett who will be looking at this highly-skilled type of flying. Starting at 1930hrs (pre-drinks 1900hrs), the cash Bar will be open, but we are not planning food this week. See you on Tuesday evening.

FUEL COMPOUND SECURITY
We have recently experienced an unauthorised emptying of the UL91 glass sample jars. These are a critical safety feature that would be analysed in the event of an accident. They are only to be emptied on the next corresponding day to make space for the next sample – for example, only empty TUESDAY jar into the jerry can when the sample jar is required for the next TUESDAY sample/water check. ALL HAC MEMBERS ARE TO CHALLENGE ANYONE THEY DO NOT RECOGNISE IN THE FUEL COMPOUND AND REPORT IT TO A STAFF MEMBER.

FLEET UPDATE
> GA – the brand new port main tyre has gone flat and should be rectified early next week.
> BJ – Serviceable.
> KI – Serviceable.
> TM – Our engineers are working hard to find/replace the cracked door frame.
> 3rd C-152 – we continue to monitor this requirement.
> CS – the aircraft is expected to move to its new home at Fife tomorrow – Bon Voyage.

UK TOUR – 7-9 SEPT 23
A few places are still available on this UK Mini Exped. Likely to be around 5-7hrs PIC per crew member, the night stops will be Blackpool and Newcastle. Please REPLY TO THIS EMAIL ASAP if you have not already signed-up and would like to attend this great learning adventure and make the perfect intro to the next overseas Exped. The first planning meeting will be scheduled soon.

2024 OVERSEAS EXPED
Following a brilliant French Exped, we are already looking at a major overseas Exped for next year. Possible destinations are Croatia and Italy. I plan to give a Tuesday Social late this year/early next year entitled ‘What’s the Exped All About?’. This and the UK Tour gives licensed members the ability to venture out of Buckinghamshire in a supervised and team environment – what is your excuse not to sign-up?

Fly Safe,

Chairman’s Update 14-05-23

‘Time to spare? Go by air!’

Dear Member,

A quick update to inform you of our current Fleet availability issues. In short, the loss of TM and 6-week delay of DK has been a bitter blow. We are working hard to minimise the impact, but the end resolution is out of our control which makes it all the more frustrating. To be clear we are all frustrated with this situation and any member that thinks it OK to be rude to Staff will be asked to leave.

> GA – Serviceable – sufficient hours for this week and Exped.

> KI – Serviceable – will go for a 50hr service this week prior to the Exped departure (20th May).

> TM – Unserviceable due to a door frame crack. Our engineers are sourcing a replacement frame, but they are scarce and unlikely to be a quick turnround. The cause of this crack is almost certainly fast taxiing – bear this in mind next time you fly.

> CZ – Once the current availability issues are over, we will decide if a 3rd C-152 is required.

> DK (leased PA-28) – expected to be available mid June.

> BJ (alternate leased PA-28) – we are monitoring the purchase of this aircraft by our leaser, which has been problematic. If it comes off, we may get this aircraft soon and then swap it for DK in June.

In the meantime – ensure you only book the hours that you are going to fly. We need to make the remaining aircraft as efficient as possible to maximise the flying. Think about booking outside of peak hours – there are very few bookings after 1800hrs – the Airfield is open til 2000hrs 7 days a week.

Mark
