Fun Fact – I love old aeroplanes, especially those made from wood and fabric. I am a lifelong aeroplane enthusiast and grew up as a spotter, starting at White Waltham in 1955, when the RAF still operated Mosquitos and Balliols there. I volunteer at the Museum of Berkshire Aviation and belong to Joystick Club (White Waltham), their aim is to encourage youngsters into aviation.
Flying Aspirations – To keep flying for as many years as I am able.
Top Tip – Learn something new from every flight. I have always thought that the day I do the perfect flight I should finish my flying days

High Wycombe`s Contribution to Aviation

Aviation in and around High Wycombe, including manufacture of aeroplane parts in the furniture factories in both World Wars (more parts of the wooden airframe for the DH98 Mosquito were made here than anywhere else). Birthplace of Geoffrey de Havilland, last residence of Amy Johnson. HQ Bomber Command and USAAF Eight Army Air Force in WW2.

The man who, by 1918, had created the world`s largest aircraft manufacturing organisation, the Aircraft Manufacturing Company (AIRCO).” Manufacturing aeroplanes, aero engines, flying boats, airships and propellers. All de Havilland types up to DH25 were all under the AIRCO name. (He provided the finance in 1920 to Geoffrey de Havilland to establish his own company). Founder and first Chairman of the Gloster Aircraft Company. His airline “Aircraft Transport & Travel” (AT&T) operated, in 1919, the world`s first international scheduled regular daily passenger air service. Alan Cobham and Neville Shute both worked for AIRCO. He founded IATA and was instrumental in the formation of the SBAC. He lived at North Dean, Hughenden, Nr. High Wycombe.
