Centenary Day

Message from Our Chairman

Dear Member,

Yesterday we celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the formation of the Halton Aero Club. During the day, we generated 30 sorties and had up to 3 Halton aircraft continually airborne from 0900-2000hrs. This was followed by a fantastic BBQ and social event.

I would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone that helped with the planning, set-up, running and tidy-up! In particular, Mike Russell, Buster & Lisa, Steve T, Dusty Miller, Rob Churchward, Dave Scott, Rachel W, Sam, Mark Devlin, Chris Williams, Dave Seath, everyone that flew or helped to clean/refuel aircraft, and of course, anyone that I have missed!

A lot of photos have been taken and will be placed on the Members’ Area of the website. Additionally, it was great to see Dollar and Nick Pin flying in from North Weald. Dollar has sent the following link to his photo drop-box which will be accessible for one month:

Finally, one of our Junior Rank & Officer Scholars solo’d today, congratulations to Josh Wrighton and a big thank-you to Deacon and Bob for getting him to solo standard! Just one more ab-initio Scholar to finish.

Happy 100th!

Message from Ops Mgr

My thanks also to everyone who helped pull together an amazing day – our predecessors would have been very proud of the Club they formed a 100 years ago!

We flew 18 sorties in Club ac for a total of 22.8 hours and 10 private ac flown by Club members clocked up 10 sorties totalling 8.1 hours.  So 28 sorties for 30.9 hours.  Quite a day! If you didn’t get your log book stamped with the unique HAC Centenary Stamp, please drop into the office to do so.

As Mark said, I’ll collate all photos and video onto a page on the website in due course and Dilshan  is compiling a video from the material he collected on Saturday morning, so if you have any photos or video please send to me.

June Fly-In & Airshow Calendar

June Fly-In & Airshow Calendar

June Air Shows & Fly-Ins

Good morning all,

I’ve put together a list of events for June, which includes a mix of fly-ins and a few drive-in options. The goal is to inspire us all to get flying—or at least give some purpose to those summer trips!

With the warmer weather now here, there’s something happening nearly every weekend, from local fly-ins to larger airshows. I’ll aim to share a new list each month throughout the summer so we can all make the most of the season.

For those longer-distance events, don’t forget about the new flight-sharing WhatsApp group—perfect for coordinating trips and splitting costs with fellow members.

If you know of any events I’ve missed or have suggestions for future months, feel free to drop me an email.

Happy flying,

Elliot Emery, HAC Social Secretary

Shuttleworth Visit

Shuttleworth Visit

A group of pilots from Halton Aero Club had the fantastic opportunity to visit the @Shuttleworth Collection Engineering Open Day in February. The day was a resounding success, offering fascinating insights into the evolution of radial engines, the intricate differences between replicas and restorations, and the immense effort required to keep such a remarkable collection airborne.

It was truly inspiring to witness the dedication, skill, and vast knowledge of the workshop team, whose hard work ensures these historic aircraft continue to fly. As an unexpected treat, we were also treated to an impromptu aerobatic display by a pair of Pitts Biplanes, making the day even more memorable.

A huge thank you to the Shuttleworth Collection for their hospitality and for sharing their passion for aviation with us!

At Halton Aero Club, we regularly organise group visits, land-aways, and insightful presentations covering a wide range of aeronautical topics. Members are always encouraged to take part

—so if you haven’t joined us yet, what are you waiting for? ✈️

Chairman’s Message 30 Jan 25

Dear Member,

Whilst the weather may be keeping us on the ground, we are busy preparing for our Centenary year flying season. Please put the following into your diaries:

2025 EXPED – INAUGURAL MEETING – SAT 8 FEB – 1000hrs
This one-hour meeting will present the plan for the 2025 Overseas Expedition. No need to commit until after this meeting, so come along and find out what it is all about! Attendance on the Exped, with shared flying, is the most economic and challenging way of expanding your flying horizon. The Exped is end-Jun.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL PAPERWORK – FEB 25
The Membership Sec will be starting the renewal process in the next few weeks. We have frozen the membership rate from last year. This has been a dreadful winter and it is critical that we replenish our funds ASAP. Please do not delay your membership renewal, or there will be no HAC.

STATION COMMANDER’S INSPECTION – WED 19 FEB 25
This annual inspection is hugely important. The Ops Manager will be looking for assistance in the days prior – please respond immediately and pitch-in.

CLUBHOUSE PAINTING DAYS – SUN 9 & SUN 16 MAR – 1000hrs
As a Station Encroachment, WE are responsible for the good order of our infrastructure. It is therefore critical that both of these events are supported – no special skills required. Just a desire to ensure that the HAC is allowed to continue to operate at RAF Halton. YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU.

There is a theme to the last 3 titles above. Your Staff and Committee are working hard, please ensure that you give us your full support.

Regards,

Mark
