Shuttleworth Engineering Open Workshop

Dear Member

I hope you have been enjoying your Autumn, Bonfire night, got an
opportunity to reflect for Remembrance, and are looking forward to
Christmas.

Shuttleworth run an ‘Engineering Open Workshop’, which I have been to
before and found very interesting and informative. We have the
opportunity to take advantage of a discounted rate of £14 a head (from
£20) if we can book 15 or more. Details of the day are in the URL below.
I would suggest we look at Saturday 22nd February 2025.

If you are interested, please contact me (mark.anderson@haltonaeroclub.co.uk) and I will make arrangements. I
would suggest people either make their own way there, or car share.

All the best

Following an initiative from James Lawrence requesting images for HAC’s Instagram account, David Tester kindly sent in two batches of images which now appear in the website. One set is from Moth Day at RAF Halton in June 2011, the other set is from June 29th 2013 where Armed Forces Day at Aylesbury Rugby Club was supported by aircraft temporarily based at Halton for the event.

You can view all of these images on the new Gallery page which can be found here: https://haltonaeroclub.co.uk/gallery/

If you have any interesting photos you would like to share please drop me a line at mark.wingrove@haltonaeroclub.co.uk and we can grow the gallery section.

HAC Social Media

HAC Social Media

Dear all,

I hope this email finds you well.

A quick update on all things social media. Since taking over the reigns and trying to push the engagement over the platforms, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Our following has doubled and the ‘reach’

we are achieving has risen by 250%. This is mainly down to my aspiration to post on a daily basis on Instagram (some generic posts I have felt are less relevant to the more personal Facebook audience). So far I have achieved this aspiration, however I am fast running out of content.

Therefore I would like to reiterate my plea to all of you to help me out and share your HAC photos. These can be new or old, and even if you think they’re a little plain (no pun intended) I assure you they can be made interesting and relevant to the right audience! I am more than happy for people to directly send me photos to my phone via WhatsApp (07709339279). If you could spend a few moments looking through your smart phones and sending me relevant photos, I’d be much obliged.

I must thank all those of you have have already shared content with me, and particular kudos must go to Elliot, who’s image was selected for use on the Luton airport social media platforms! This proves the type of reach we are getting.

There are 2 other ways you can help me. Firstly, you have hopefully seen the “member Monday” feature I have been running recently. I currently only have a couple more members to feature so if you are interested in doing this, please reply to this email and I will send you the questions.

Also the “fun fact Friday” feature has proved popular and engaging, however I am fast running out of fun facts! So if any of you would like to provide me with some interesting knowledge about HAC and the local area, particularly historic stuff, then again I’d be extremely grateful.

I am enjoying this role, however it really does need to be a team effort so once again please, if you have a few minutes, spend a little time helping the club!

Many thanks to all of you in advance.

Kind regards,

James

HAC Social Media

HAC and Social Media

Dear all,

I hope this email finds you safe and well, and in anticipation of a full summer of flying ahead!

In Carl Finch’s absence, I have agreed to take on the role of managing the club’s social media output. Whilst I don’t intend to try and reinvent the wheel, with GA flying already making a strong comeback after covid, I think there is an opportunity for the club to increase its presence in an already strong online GA community.

I will be closely coordinating my efforts with Mark Wingrove so as to increase traffic on the HAC website as well. My intention is to support the website, rather than detract from it.

Clearly however, this needs to be a team effort, therefore I implore all of you to assist me in this role by supporting the following;

1. News feed items

Clearly this will directly correlate with the news feed already on the website, and is a good opportunity for us to celebrate achievements and other newsworthy items such as staff appointments etc. Now as much as I’d love to spend all my time at the airfield, clearly this isn’t possible therefore I ask that all of you can bear this in mind when flying. Anything from first solos, solo landaways, test passes, and even first time experience flights would be of interest to the wider audience. Might I ask instructors in particular to bear this in mind, as clearly student pilots have more important things to consider on these occasions!

2. Throwback/on this day

Style posts. Similar to above, but we have an opportunity to retrospectively celebrate achievements. These can be linked to specific dates, or can be filtered in when the feed is quiet. As well as the above, we could also feature past expeds, airfield visits (such as the recent Catalina visit) and I’m sure there is a huge archive of events that I’m unaware of. I’d suggest the more historic the better!

3. General posts

In order to keep a steady flow of traffic (no pun intended…) I will spend an afternoon at the airfield, when the weather is better, and take some generic ‘stock’ photos which can be trickled out on a regular basis to keep the social media audience engaged. Again feel free to share with me any old photos, no matter how ‘run of the mill’.

If you feel you can contribute to any of the above, please take a couple of photos, or ask someone to help with ‘action shots’ such as pre flight, briefing, planning etc. Whilst this might sound trivial, there is an abundance of similar content from other flying clubs around the UK and to the right audience it is very engaging. And rest assured that phone cameras are generally more than good enough quality for social media.

I don’t profess to be a social media expert by any means, so if anyone else has any ideas please do not hesitate to suggest them to me. Please use either this email address (socialmedia@haltonaeroclub.co.uk) or WhatsApp me on 07709339279.

We are also seeking website editors that can help to keep the newsfeed fresh on the website. No previous experience necessary, full training given over Zoom. Typically 1 – 2hrs a week would be the sort of commitment we are looking for. Please let myself or Mark Wingrove know if this is something you feel you could contribute to.

Many thanks in advance for your input, and I look forward to seeing you all at the club in due course, when normality is finally resumed!

Kind regards,

James

New Online Shop for Members

New Online Shop for Members

We have just opened a very small shop, well perhaps a corner kiosk might be a better description. The page is located in the Members area on the website.  You can purchase Halton Aero Club merchandise here, We may expand it a little later on in the year.

Right now it is an experimental area while we gauge how popular it is, and whether members use it. The concept is you can make your purchase online using BACs for payment and pick up the item the next time you visit the club. It is not going to be a whole lot different from making purchases from Jon direclty in the office, which you can still do. The page offers the opportunity to make the purchase ahead of a visit, and also to see what is available.

If you have any feedback on this idea, please send it to sales@haltonaeroclub.co.uk

You can go there directly by clicking on the button below.

HAC Social –  3rd March 2020 – The A10 “HAWG”

DON’T FORGET!!
Our first Social evening of 2020 is on 3rd March and will feature a briefing by Major Greg “DATT” Guy USAF on the A10-C Thunderbolt II – affectionately known as the “HAWG”.

Major Greg “DATT” Guy is a 2008 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy.  After graduation, he attended Undergraduate Pilot Training at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas where he flew the T-6 Texan II and T-38 Talon.  After completion of pilot training, DATT stayed at Laughlin Air Force Base as a First Assignment Instructor Pilot (FAIP).  He instructed brand new students with little to no flying experience on the T-6 for 3 years, gaining over 850 hours.  Following this assignment, DATT transitioned to the A-10C Thunderbolt II, more affectionately known as the Hawg.  His first A-10 assignment was with the 75th Fighter Squadron at Moody AFB, GA, where he deployed to OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE gaining over 400 combat hours over Iraq and Syria in the fight against ISIS.  During this assignment, DATT earned the qualifications of A-10 IP, FAC(A) and Sandy 2.  Following the 75th Fighter Squadron, DATT went to Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona where he instructed at the A-10 Fighter Training Unit (the US equivalent of the OCU).  He left this assignment in November 2018 with 1200 hours in the A-10C and was posted to RAF High Wycombe. He works as a US Exchange Officer with the RAF and is the Senior Offensive Duty Officer on the UK JFAC.

Please come along to have a beer, catch up with your fellow HAC members and hear the inside story of what has been called the ugliest military aircraft in the world!  See you at 1900 for 1930 start.
