This photo was taken during the Check A on G-EDGA and shows roughly 50% of the vessel containing water. AVGAS is dyed blue for this reason. What might have been more difficult to notice was the 2 whole vessels (not photographed) full of water that preceded this – would you have noticed a complete lack of colour? Without doubt, if this had not been properly strained pre-flight, it would have resulted in an engine failure, probably just after after take-off.
Whilst this happened after being parked outside at our engineering base at Denham, this could occur at any time. The message is clear – be meticulous during all pre-flight, flight and post-flight checks – it might save your life!
