Dear Member,

In line with UK Government Covid-19 Lockdown rules and RAF Halton Covid-19 measures, there will be NO FLYING FROM HALTON AIRFIELD until Thu 3 Dec 20.

Work to prepare for post-Lockdown business will be permitted.

We will keep you updated as the final duration of the current Lockdown becomes clearer.  Until then, please stay safe – we will see you again soon.

Chairman’s Update 27-07-20

Dear Member,

I have been contacted by RAF Halton Ops, and have have a number of updates for you.  Please note the following:

  1. Weekend Flying.  Unfortunately, there will be no HAC flying on the weekend of Sat 1-Sun 2 Aug.  We will not be permitted to commence concurrent powered/glider flying this weekend; however, it will commence on Wed 5 Aug (pm).  Therefore, I am sorry to say that all bookings for 1-2 Aug will be cancelled via the EBS.
  2. Over 70s.  The current policy of shielding over-70s from RAF Halton Airfield will be reviewed on Fri 31 Jul.  Should you be in this category and have a booking from Mon 3 Aug, please leave this on the EBS and assume that the review will be positive.  As soon as I have news, I will forward it.
  3. Airmanship Observations.  The following represent the observations from Instructors conducting currency checks.  How familiar are you with:
    •  Lookout scan?
    •  Diversion Planning?
    •  Electric Fuel Pump use?
    •  Weight & Balance calculations?
    •  Performance calculations?
  1. Full Airfield Opening Hours.  The current reduced hours (0900-1700L) reflect the Airfield Managers’ working hours (and the current weekend shift to cover IER).  Full airfield opening hours (0900-2000L) will be restored soon – once this happens, the EBS will be amended and you will be informed by email.
  2. IER.  Training for Club Member IER duties is being reviewed.  Meantime, an ‘un-current IER Assistant’ to the Airfield Manager may be required.  Please help when required.
  3. Land-Aways.  Aircraft may now land at another airfield (in accordance with existing HAC rules).

Restrictions are slowly being lifted.  Please know the rules and do not let us down – if you are unsure, please ask!

Finally, if you are flying when there is concurrent gliding – know the noise abatement procedures; know the glass wall procedures; know what to do when the glider caravan makes any RT calls.

Fly Safe, see you soon.

03-11-20 Chairman’s Message

Message from the Chairman 13th July 2020

Dear Member,

We have some excellent news, the start of Phase 2 has been authorised by Station and been brought forward by one week due to early instructor regain of currency.

Please read all of the following carefully before proceeding to the Electronic Booking System (EBS).

The EBS has been configured to reflect the current reduced fleet and increased instructor availability. Any bookings that do not meet the following guidelines will be deleted – please monitor your booking as you may not get the instructor and or slot you initially request.

Week 1

Mon 20th – Fri 24th Jul 20 (excluding Mon am, Wed pm):  2 hr slots instructed 42-day currency regain checks available.  Priority – instructed 42-day currency regain checks only.

Week 2

Mon 27th – Fri 31 Jul 20 (excluding Mon am, Wed pm):  2 hr slots instructed 42-day currency regain check available.  Priority – instructed 42-day currency regain checks only.

Rules for weeks 1 and 2.

Book only one 2 hr slot.  The flying detail will include 3 x solo circuits at the completion of a successful dual check.  If successful, you may then book solo hire for week 3 onward.  If unsuccessful, you must book another 42-day currency regain check where available.

Week 3

Sat 1st – Fri 7th Aug (excluding Mon am): 2 hr slots available for the following
Priority – 1. Instructed 42-day currency regain checks.
                2. PPL Instruction.  3. Solo hire.

Rules for Week 3

Book only one 2 hr slot.  If booking solo hire, you may be contacted by the Club to split the slot so that 2 solo hires may take place.

Week 4

Sat 8 Aug onward.  Back to one hour slots.  All dual instruction must be booked as 2 x 1 hr slots.  Solo hire must be booked to reflect intended use – if you book 2 hours and fly 10 minutes you may be charged for wasted aircraft utilisation.  We cannot afford to lose flying time.
Priority – 1.  RAF Junior Rank Pilot Scholarships (17 Aug onward)
                2.  Any instructed flying.
                3. Solo hire.

THE IMPORTANT BITS – Complete all of your online reading/GASCO/docs/HAC Instructor requirements well in advance.  Arrive at least 30 mins before your slot.  Everything will take longer (Covid-19 safety precautions, aircraft sanitising, use the toilet at airfield gate, etc) and if there is insufficient time to complete the entire detail (including the 3 solo circuits), you will need to re-book.  Slot finish times cannot slip, as the programme will be fully booked.  Out of date Station passes are accepted with an in-date HAC Membership Card.  Flight Safety – this needs to be a learning experience – if you are not feeling confident to fly solo, you must be honest and seek further instruction – we have all been away from flying for a long time and nothing is expected of you other than BOOK IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ABOVE – PREPARE BEFORE YOU GET HERE – GET HERE EARLY – BE HONEST ABOUT YOUR CAPABILITIES.

Stay Safe,

Mark

Dear Member,

Apologies for the follow-up, but this has just been received from Station.  The rule stopping Under-18s coming onto the airfield is lifted with immediate effect.  However, in mirroring the UK Gov C-19 Restrictions, members of 70 years-old and over may only travel to RAF Halton from 1 Aug 20 onward.  Sorry!

Mark Manwaring
