(Message from Dave Scott)

Social Club

We have a number of “new” club members and we would like to encourage you to join us on a social basis as in many cases you come for a lesson and go straight home afterwards so we do not get a chance to meet and chat to you. Please do not be afraid to come and chat to us we are a very friendly group.

I hope you are all aware that on the first Tuesday evening of every month we have an organised Club Night, guest speakers are booked by our Social Secretary, Nicola Parkes, who also provides hot food, available at a nominal price.
Guest speakers are invariably presenting an aviation based subject, but occasionally we are able to get a special guest such as former Formula 1 Driver Mark Webber, who lives on the edge of our airfield and speaks to us on the radio before departing/arriving in his helicopter.

To encourage more regular “events” we propose to have every Tuesday evening as a “drop in evening” from 19.00-21.00. This can simply be for a social chat about aviating, or perhaps an aviation quiz or watching an aviation DVD, an ideal way to get to know your fellow club members.

Outings. It would be good to see if there is sufficient to support some trips, possibly include a trip to National Air Traffic Control Centre at Swanwick, and even on our “doorstep” visits to the Trenchard Museum on the camp at Halton and/or a guided tour of Halton House (historic Rothschild Manor house that has been used for many film sets this is a good visit also for wives and girlfriends).

I will be pleased to hear from anyone who has any ideas about what they would like. Say hello if you see me, my main interest in aviation is in Vintage Aeroplanes and local aviation history (I live in High Wycombe and have written and published two books about local aviation history (see notice board in the club room for more details)).
