Things to do while the weather is not great

Things to do while the weather is not great

(Message from Deacon 8/1/20)

Dear HAC Members,

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
With not a lot of flying happening at the moment I thought I would compile a list of things that you can do at HAC when the weather is against us.

  1. Complete the Theory Exams – there are a total of nine exams to pass – why not get them out of the way over the winter period – then you will be summer ready (£25 each)
  2. Brush up with ground school sessions – the sessions I offer are not just for student pilots – you can book a session to go through anything flying related (£30 per hour 1-2-1)
  3.  Flight Simulator sessions – maintain your flying skills by booking a session on the New PC based Simulator at Halton (£30 per hour with an instructor or £10 per hour solo hire)
  4. Practice your radio work or even take the radio practical exam
  5. Plan trips ready for when the good weather arrives
  6. Think of ways we can improve the club – now is the perfect time to make any improvements to the club before the busy flying season – I’d be more very happy to hear your suggestions.

I really hope that this spell of bad weather is coming to an end, but don’t allow it to stop you from improving your piloting skills.

Thanks,

Deacon Brown

Congratulations at long last to our deputy chairman Lee Simpson for finally completing his PPL. Lee started flying with the club in 2016 choosing the clubs Tecnam aircraft. Appearing to take an age, due in part to a move to Nottingham, and a detachment to the Falklands. He remained tenacious employing the services of nearly every instructor and aircraft in the club (for which he is grateful). He is deservedly now ready for the next challenge.

Choosing a career as a crash rescue fire fighter in the RAF, it was only after watching the No Limits series with Idris Elba that he decided to give flying a go. First taking a trial lesson at RAF Benson, he chose HAC as it had more to offer including being closer to home. Coupled with the generous educational benefits provided by the RAF and its ELC scheme, allowed Lee to realise his ambition.

Lee cites “the friendliness of the members, the facilities, condition of its aircraft and the professionalism of its instructors, without whom, I would not have succeeded.”

Let’s all toast our deputy chair at the annual HAC awards dinner whereby he will have returned from the Falklands again, well-done Lee and we look forward to seeing you in a club aircraft soon.

Congratulations Lee.
