This morning we say congratulations to Elliot, who yesterday took to the skies for the first time as a solo pilot! This is always a truly memorable occasion for any aviator!

Elliot now joins a very exclusive club, and has the all important “Ex.14” annotated in his logbook!

Can’t fly? Have a sit down in the classroom

Can’t fly? Have a sit down in the classroom

Despite having two bookings a week for the past three months, I have not had many opportunities to undergo practical training in the Cessna 152 towards my PPL due in large part to the season. As someone who really enjoys the practical aspects of flying training, it is easy to overlook what else you could be doing with the various reasons why we cannot fly at this time of the year. Things like a water logged field, winds too high, visibility poor etc.

I am at a stage where I am practising circuits and trying to master the various radio calls. While you are learning in the cockpit it can all be a bit overwhelming and unfamiliar until things start to click in place. I took an hour out with Deacon to work on the various radio calls from start up to post landing. It was extremely useful time spent. With my next flying lesson, I had almost got it 100% right.

Contact Deacon for a 1 to 1 classroom session if you find you cannot be in the air, it will be time well spent if you are undergoing training. Deacon’s email address is deacon.brown@haltonaeroclub.co.uk.
