Dear Member,

As we get closer to Mon 12th April, you will receive a weekly email to prepare you to return to flying in a safe way.  Please read all of the messages and complete any tasks as soon as possible.

Instructors

In-line with the Depart for Transport rules, most of our instructors regained their currency on 17 Mar.

Aircraft

We now have 2 x C-152 and the PA-28 through annual servicing and ready to go.  Once we have generated sufficient funds we will bring the Tecnam and 3rd C-152 back on-line.

Membership Renewal

With the departure of the VF Syndicate to another airfield, the good news is that (as at 1 Mar) all applications for Associate Membership have been successful and the Club currently has no waiting list.  On 1 Apr we will review the aircraft parking plan and hope to have most aircraft positioned with unhindered routing to/from the hangar door.

Safety Meeting

The Committee will meet on Thu 25 Mar to review our Covid mitigations and flight safety issues.  Once we are happy that all is in order to restart, we will open the EBS to reflect:

Mon 12-Sun 18 Apr – 42-day currency regain
Mon 19 Apr onwards – All types of instructed and solo flying (JRPSS to restart in May)

You will be emailed when the EBS goes live.

Dear Member,

There is light at the end of the tunnel!  After yesterday’s CAA update and today’s RAF Halton Flight Safety Meeting, I am delighted to give you the following good news:

2021 RETURN TO FLYING DATES 

Wed 17 Mar – Instructors’ regain of currency.

Last Week of Mar Onwards – EBS Re-opens (this will follow a risk review by the Committee and will be notified to you by email).

Thu 1 Apr – Private Aircraft Owners’ regain of currency (solo flight only, monitored by Instructor.  If unable to attend on 1 Apr, the next opportunity will be 12 Apr).

Mon 12 Apr Onwards – 42-Day Currency Regain (licensed members in C-152 or PA-28 with HAC Instructor).

Mon 19 Apr Onwards – Start of ‘Normal Ops’ – from this date PPL/IMC instruction and solo flights after completing currency regain start (first date for dual flights with someone outside of your family bubble (other than an instructor) is not yet known).

Early May Onwards – JRPSS recommences

Mon 21 Jun Onwards – Nationally-anticipated ‘No Covid Restrictions’ date.

Tue 1 Jul – Party!

Details of the return to flying instructional package will be published soon and will be very similar to post-Lockdown One.  The new Out/In Brief will be sent to you for familiarisation in late-Mar.

OTHER NEWS

– Station Passes – this will be managed by Mike Russell and Carl Finch.  However, there will be a backlog, so last year’s passes will be accepted until resolved.

– Car Passes not required to use car park outside of barrier.

– Work Projects on the Airfield include: Repairs to expansion joints on Dispersal and hard-standings, new barrier, repainting of road markings.

– The Airfield is in excellent condition.

– Station Ops will be manned 7-days a week from the start of flying.

– Hangar Aircraft Parking Plan – This will be reviewed and improved in early Apr.

We need to manage this return to flying in a structured and safe way. Please ensure that you read and understand all HAC emails which will contain important info to achieve a successful return to flying.

2021 APPLICATION PROCESS – NOW LIVE!

From 14th Feb 2021 all existing members (including reciprocal and social) and those on the waiting list can apply for membership for 2021-22.  New Full Members can apply at that time also. Those wishing to join for the new Club year should download and complete the application form below and e mail it to the Membership Sec no later than 1st March to be considered for membership.  Only e mailed applications will be processed.  No monies are to be sent at this time. New Associate members can apply at any time after 14th Feb 2021, but their applications will be considered after renewing members’ applications.
 
On 1st March 2021 the Membership Sec will compile list of applications received (1) for Chairman’s consideration showing:
  1.  All those who qualify for Full Membership.
  2. All those who qualify for Associate or F9 (Veterans) membership.
  3. The number of applicants for Associate or F9 (Veterans) membership that can be admitted within the RAFSA rules.

By 14th March 2021 the Chairman will identify which applications for Associate Membership and F9 (Veterans) are to be accepted.

By 21st March 2021 the Membership Sec will notify those successful applicants (both Full and Associate) requesting payment of membership fee (by BACS) no later than 31st March. If payment is not received by 15th April, the offer of membership will be withdrawn and offered to the next eligible applicant on the list.

On 1st April the Membership Sec will notify all unsuccessful applicants and place them on the waiting list.

(1) Applications received after 1st March will be dealt with in order of receipt, but the same criteria for Veteran and Associate Membership will be applied

Dear Member,

The return to flying has been hugely successful and I would like to pass my thanks to JK, Buster, Steve and all of the instructors who have worked hard to achieve this safely.  And of course, to you for representing the HAC with professionalism whilst flying.  

Please note the following:

Weekend Conjoint Flying    

From tomorrow, Sat 8 Aug 20, powered flying and gliding will take place at the same time on weekends.  We are therefore back to 7-days a week ops with immediate effect.  If you are unsure about flying whilst gliding is taken place, you must speak to an instructor. Know the glass wall; know what glider RT calls means; know and fly the correct procedures.  If in doubt, do not fly.

IER

The Airfield Ops Team will provide IER cover until we resume this duty on Sat 15 Aug 20.  You will be given an IER duty date.  It is your responsibility to complete the training and attend on the date allocated.

C-152 Fleet

We now have sufficient funds to have KI put through its annual service.  This will give us extra capacity until the end of October when the next C-152 is due its annual.  At that point, we will likely revert to 2 x C-152 for the winter months.

Aircraft Cleaning

Please ensure that your aircraft is cleaned before the next pilot starts their sortie.  This is a non-negotiable term of membership at the HAC – if you are unable to clean the aircraft in time, then you must wait and help the following pilot clean the aircraft after their sortie.

Fuel Bowser

Please take care when opening the book.  Also, the minor diesel seepage is known about and will be fixed next week.

Rotax Engine Thefts

There has been a suspected attempt at the theft of a Rotax engine at another Bucks airfield. Report anything suspicious at RAF Halton and challenge anyone that you do not recognise for ID.  Ensure that all doors and windows are locked when you leave.

Henry Hoover

Hopefully not the victim of a Henry Hoover theft, but missing nevertheless!  If you find him or have him hiding in your locker, please return him.  We sorely miss his smiley red face.

Airfield Opening Hours

Under review and hopefully back to 2000hrs (L) by 17 Aug 20.  You will be emailed when this changes.

Remain extant.

Chairman’s Update 27-07-20

Dear Member,

I have been contacted by RAF Halton Ops, and have have a number of updates for you.  Please note the following:

  1. Weekend Flying.  Unfortunately, there will be no HAC flying on the weekend of Sat 1-Sun 2 Aug.  We will not be permitted to commence concurrent powered/glider flying this weekend; however, it will commence on Wed 5 Aug (pm).  Therefore, I am sorry to say that all bookings for 1-2 Aug will be cancelled via the EBS.
  2. Over 70s.  The current policy of shielding over-70s from RAF Halton Airfield will be reviewed on Fri 31 Jul.  Should you be in this category and have a booking from Mon 3 Aug, please leave this on the EBS and assume that the review will be positive.  As soon as I have news, I will forward it.
  3. Airmanship Observations.  The following represent the observations from Instructors conducting currency checks.  How familiar are you with: 
    •  Lookout scan?
    •  Diversion Planning?
    •  Electric Fuel Pump use?
    •  Weight & Balance calculations?
    •  Performance calculations?
  1. Full Airfield Opening Hours.  The current reduced hours (0900-1700L) reflect the Airfield Managers’ working hours (and the current weekend shift to cover IER).  Full airfield opening hours (0900-2000L) will be restored soon – once this happens, the EBS will be amended and you will be informed by email.
  2. IER.  Training for Club Member IER duties is being reviewed.  Meantime, an ‘un-current IER Assistant’ to the Airfield Manager may be required.  Please help when required.
  3. Land-Aways.  Aircraft may now land at another airfield (in accordance with existing HAC rules).

Restrictions are slowly being lifted.  Please know the rules and do not let us down – if you are unsure, please ask!  

Finally, if you are flying when there is concurrent gliding – know the noise abatement procedures; know the glass wall procedures; know what to do when the glider caravan makes any RT calls.
